“My role picks up where the requirements document leaves off: figuring out what the customer truly expects and converting that into an architecture that sustains the production pace.” Fabien Nicot, Technical Director
No two production lines share the same constraints: a unique part, a production pace to sustain, a tough environment, a station to integrate into. Our SPE custom-built machines are marking solutions and traceability systems designed and manufactured specifically for your application, from your needs upward. SIC Marking supplies standard equipment as well as custom-built solutions for permanent marking and component traceability.
In addition to the part marking conditions, the specific characteristics of the part dictate which marking technology makes the most sense (laser, dot peen or scribe marking) and which machine is appropriate (power, speed, portability…). Both the material and any treatment applied to the surface to be engraved have a decisive influence.
Whenever the part, the production pace, the environment or the integration requirements exceed what series equipment was built for, the custom-built machine reverses the approach: the target result is defined first, and the equipment that will deliver it is then designed around it.
What we do here is not sell a machine, but design the one that fits you. We build on 30 years of experience in industrial marking, on all the marking technologies the company has mastered, and on know-how that spans every industrial sector. Our range of standard and custom-built solutions allows us to respond to each customer’s particular situation, with innovations that factor in the constraints unique to each industry.

Before anything else, we advise you on the marking technology best suited to your case: the selection depends on the material type, the required precision, the production volume, how frequently the machine will run, the expected marking durability, the budget and the operating environment, based on a thorough analysis of your requirements. Support then extends through our network of subsidiaries and distributors, who take care of promotion, implementation and customer assistance, along with the local deployment of the solutions.
Needs assessment: We study the part, the identifier, the production pace and the environment so as to translate your need into a detailed requirements specification.
Design: We establish the architecture of the machine: marking technology, mechanics, automation and any specific developments.
Purchasing: Procurement of the standard components and of the specific or custom-made elements required for the machine.
Fabrication: The marking machine is built, assembled and programmed at our facility, with customer validation.
Integration: We install the machine on your production line and connect it to your PLCs, your ERP and the equipment already in place.
Commissioning: We adjust and validate the industrial machine under genuine production conditions.
After-sales support: Training, maintenance and technical support ensure the machine’s long-term reliability.
Three industrial marking technologies are mastered by SIC Marking: dot peen, laser and scribe marking.
One strength is shared by all three: no consumables are needed, neither labels nor ink, resulting in long-lasting, highly durable marks.
Our marking and traceability solutions comply with the regulations and standards that apply in the most heavily regulated industries. Depending on the industry and the part in question, they are notably covered by the following frameworks:
A series of application cases shows how this custom-built approach works, industry by industry:
An automotive parts subcontractor set out to automate the marking of trays of heavy parts and had three requirements: a standalone laser station connected to its ERP for work-order traceability, quick cycles without interruption, and an ergonomic operator station. SIC Marking provided an XXLBOX 1200 laser station featuring a drawer and a ball transfer table that supports loads of up to 80 kg, accurate locating fixtures and the SIC Factory Automation software for straightforward ERP integration.
Bosch Rexroth builds hydraulic valves, supplied notably to excavator suppliers; the machined steel spools, cylindrical parts manufactured in a number of variants, need to be identified ahead of assembly, at a pace of one tray per minute. The XXL-BOX laser station put in place uses sensors to automatically recognize each tray, compares that information with the recipe stored in the SIC Factory Automation software and notifies the operator whenever there is a mismatch, which removes the leading source of human error with no impact on cycle time.
Marking the chassis identification number (VIN) on motorcycle, scooter and quad frames called for dedicated tooling that would make it easier to keep the marking gun firmly positioned on each zone to be marked. The tooling, designed for each individual zone, is fastened directly onto the dot peen marking gun, which is mounted on a balancer and held against the frames by a pneumatic clamping cylinder.
A worldwide leader in technologies and solutions for the medical field wanted to mark implants ahead of bending: a patient-specific, single-unit mark, made on straight rods before the part is formed into its final shape.
A manufacturer of medical instruments needed to incorporate a high-speed marking system into its production line while preserving the product’s corrosion-resistant coating; the parts are loaded and unloaded automatically by a cobot.
An aerospace company was aiming to upgrade the marking of different references of carbon brake discs for landing gear: moving from machined marking to laser technology and introducing a Data Matrix code in order to streamline its production process.
Since 1992, SIC Marking has designed and built industrial marking solutions: the group has kept growing by developing new industry sectors, by winning local and international customers and through many acquisitions. Its international reach is built on 10 subsidiaries (France, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, the United States, Mexico, China and Korea) and 40 exclusive distributor partners, covering more than 50 countries.
Each SPE machine begins with an analysis of your process. After reviewing your requirements in detail, our experts can recommend the solution that best fits your situation.
