Marking nameplates with different formats to ensure the traceability of machinery

The client is a well-known manufacturer of agricultural machinery.
In order to guarantee the traceability of these different types of machinery, the manufacturer wanted to create a standard nameplate for its various production sites around the world: France (5 plants), USA (2 plants), Germany, Italy, China, Brazil (2 plants) and the Netherlands.

The challenge

The client has specific requirements, depending in its production site.

– Certain sites have unique laser marking requirements for nameplates

with various formats (100 mm x 26 mm/100 mm x 50 mm/100 mm x 80 mm/optional 100 mm

x 150 mm) and a single thickness (0.5 mm). The codes engraved on black anodised steel

plates need to be read and the reading image must be saved.

– Others want to use the laser machine to mark nameplates as well as

larger parts

– Other entities need to engrave traceability codes directly on a

piece of machinery, off the production site.

The SIC MARKING

solution

The SIC MARKING teams developed three laser marking solutions to satisfy the client’s requirements:

  • A custom TAGMARK LASER designed for unique marking of nameplates.
A specific development integrating an automatic 3-channel plate loader was developed by our experts.
  • A standard LASER L-Box Easy marking solution for marking nameplates or larger parts (with or without a rotating plate, as required). A removable plate positioning system was specifically developed.
  • To satisfy the requirements of certain sites in terms of marking directly on agricultural machinery, our best-selling e-mark portable dot peen marking system was chosen, with custom development of its marking window.

All the laser marking systems are able to engrave a range of information, such as logos, a Data Matrix or alphanumeric characters.
They use specific software that is capable of working with the client’s internal database.
The laser marking machines are also equipped with a camera for reading Data Matrix codes and they store the image of reading results.
For the systems with plate loaders, the plates to be marked are positioned in loading magazines in order for the sensors to verify the presence of a plate in the marking area.
The loader and the marking head are integrated into a secure LASER class compartment.
A manual door provides access to the inside of the compartment for loading and retrieving plates, maintenance and adjustments.
A positioning system is also available for occasional marking of larger plates.
